Galahad bounds through the grass, and when Szarka turns he turns too, to keep out in front of her. He can smell Lancelot up ahead, but he doesn't want anyone to catch him yet, so he veers off to the side, and promptly runs up the weeping Japanese maple, clawing his way up the bark.
